The music

In this page I want to focus on some Heep's important moment. One of the departure I feel I have to underline,  is David Byron's, dead by a heart attack. He had a clear voice, not like metal singers, (melodic voice, one of Heep's singers most common characteristic). He 's been followed by many singers: J. Lawton (heavy voice, but too distorting when singing live), J. Sloman (good one, but he stayed just for a while), P. Goalby ( Heep's most "metal" singer), and the current one , Bernie Shaw, ( in some ways similar to Byron).

Byron and Shaw have left their mark in the band, they have similarities such as melodiousness, clear voice and soul. My advice to the beginners is to listen to Byron in "Rain", "Wizard", "July morning", "Salisbury" !

Another strong characteristic of the band are keyboards. The first one, Ken Hensley, some kind of magician, completed with Mick Box, Hensley showed a boundless soul in his music . Thanks God  he lately got back into the music business with a very poetic CD and a tour with J. Lawton. The current keyboardist, Phil Lanzon, is good as well, but he's not as creative as Hensley.

The rhythmic part is held by two veterans: Lee "the bear" Kerslake and Trevor Bolder, unique for armony and sustain. Then there's Mick, a man who invented and created the Uriah Heep !

A man who followed his own way, for 30 years till now, a man I'd like to say great for what he gave and for what he's gonna give us.
