2007 We leave Naples at about 6.30 pm, arriving in Terracina at 9, after 130 km of traffic and beautiful landscapes. While I’m parking I meet my friend Mario from Rome, and hugging we head to the venue. The stage is brilliant, not so big, but the service is perfect. We manage to sit in the sixth row. We chat for an hour mainly about Heep, when an ouverture music – and the clapping hands of 500 heepsters – accompanies the Heep on stage. They start with So tired, and its toughness brings me back to their concert in Rome in 1971, a very hard rock band. As soon as they end the first song, Bernie Shaw wants the audience to stand up and get under the stage: it’s a rock gig, not an easy-listening night…! The setlist is a classic: Gipsy, Look at yourself, July morning, Sunrise…hard but perfect. The new drummer, Russell Gilbrook, brings freshness to the lineup, with his modern technique, great precision and a thrilling bass drum!!! However, Lee is and always will be in our hearts!!! You notice he’s not there because of his fundamental backing vocals, The Bear’s mark of distinction. I won’t talk longer about the gig, as we know them well. The lights go out after the encore. But how can you say to a Heepster that the show is over, and you have to go home? About thirty of us stay outside the backstage area, although bodyguards aren’t giving us much hope…then we manage to go in!!! How can you listen to the Heep without saying hello after the show??! And how can they leave you without chatting a bit??! Mick and co. recognize us, and see I’m wearing a t-shirt of the acoustic tour, bought in Munich. So they give us three signed plectrums. They have become a pendant and are currently at Tina’s, Sara’s and my neck. A GREAT NIGHT…While we come back home at night and, despite 130 km, the darkness, the tiredness and the working day after, we think…IT’S BEEN WORTH IT!!! Thanks to my friend Simone from Monza for promptly giving us the news of this unexpected show.
